RESOL offers a range of solutions for the control of OEM DHW exchange modules – now also available with a Modbus functionality! In combination with an ultra-fast temperature measurement, the specialised control algorithm of the DHW exchange platform enables a precise and energy-saving control of the draw-off temperature.

Constantly high control quality is achieved through adaptation to the end user system by means of self-learning neural networks.

How does that work?

Basis of the RESOL DeltaSol Fresh® is the instantaneous DHW heating control algorithm. It is used in DHW exchange as well as in heat transfer technology. Both use a heat exchanger.

The control variable of an instantaneous domestic hot water heater is the hot water temperature at the domestic hot water outlet of the heat exchanger. The system control variable is the flow rate on the primary side, which is varied by the actuator in use. Furthermore, the following disturbance variables affect the system:

  • the flow temperature of the medium entering on the primary side. It varies depending on the heat source and the operating condition of the heat generator.
  • the inlet temperature of the cold water, which varies particularly with the changing seasons.
  • the flow rate on the secondary side, varied by the activity at the draw-off points.

In terms of control technology, this is therefore a multi-variable system with complex system dynamics, not least due to the use of a plate heat exchanger, which in control technology belongs to the class of non-linear systems with distributed parameters and requires complex control approaches for precise regulation across a wide range of operating conditions.

To achieve the objective of a comfortable DHW supply, the controller uses an actuator (pump or valve) to regulate the flow rate on the primary side, and an integrated PID controller that continuously adjusts the control until the difference between the setpoint and the actual value becomes zero. With the help of a neural network, the control algorithm now learns from these adjustments, so that insights gained from previous control cycles can be incorporated into the control process.

Fit for the building management system

The platform also offers a wide range of hardware options. Up to 6 stations can be cascaded. For the connection to a building management system, the DeltaSol Fresh® Modbus controller platform is available with a Modbus functionality.
